Worming Survey 2011

Welcome to The George Veterinary Group Equine Clinic

  • Experience
  • Expertise
  • Value
  • Honesty
  • Commitment

That’s us! We are a long established practice committed to the long term veterinary care of horses throughout Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.  Our experience enables us to give you excellent treatment and advice that is right for you and your horse. As a professional yet friendly and approachable team, we are here to help – just call!

Visits and Charges

No loss leaders and no gimmicks!
We are a professional and long established practice offering a high quality, caring and honest service. Whilst we understand that headline prices for comparable services are important, we don’t undercut these and make up any losses elsewhere. We are strong believers in transparent charging and not compensating for low headline prices at other times. I have never yet been asked for a quote when called to see a horse with colic or a serious injury! And this is not the time to rob Peter to pay Paul.

There is a cost to travel and visit you with a fully equipped vehicle. It cannot be done for free and we don’t hide this cost elsewhere in other fees. We have long held that this is the fairest way. For 2012, we are holding our existing zone visit fee at 2010 prices and there is now a flat daytime rate for all other visits if a zone visit is not suitable for you. This should continue to provide an efficient and convenient service for you at a realistic price.  See our visits and emergency section for more details.

Using Targeted Worming

Last year we carried out a large survey on worm burdens in our horses trying to encourage the use of wormers only when needed. This has been reported in February’s edition of Horse Magazine to try and spread the word further. Please see the separate worm survey for the full details and results of the survey.

Free Equine First Aid Courses

We ran a number of these courses at various venues last year with great success. We are keen to continue with them this year. The courses will cover  wound care, saddle fit, injection technique, practical bandaging of limbs and feet and much more. If interested please email horse@georgevetgroup.co.uk and we will arrange groups of 10-12 people. Contact us for more details!

Boring but Important!

There is a lot of behind the scenes work at the practice to ensure that the high quality of care we deliver is achieved in all areas. We are part of a voluntary accreditation scheme which monitors all this behind the scenes work, to ensure that it is done correctly and to a high standard. This includes correct storage of medicines to ensure their efficacy is maintained, continuing veterinary education, quality and maintenance of equipment, accurate record keeping, case monitoring and that all medicines and equipment are reliably sourced. Whilst we aim to use good value medicines, we do not compromise on quality ensuring that all products we use or recommend have data to prove both their safety and efficacy. The RCVS accreditation scheme is a good mark that a practice does do all the behind the scenes work well. It does matter and as a 4 vet equine practice, I am able to monitor the care and treatment being given to each and every horse we see. After 20 years at the George Equine Clinic, I know how important it is that our vets are not only highly skilled but caring and compassionate too.
