The causes of lameness in cattle have been written about many times in veterinary and farming press, and the basic lesions are well understood by most. 90% of lameness is due to foot problems, and 90% of foot problems are in the back feet. Of these, roughly a third are sole ulcers, a third white line disease and a third digital dermatitis, though the proportions will vary from farm to farm.
