Post Mortem Examinations

Historically, most post mortem examinations of farmanimals were carried out at the DEFRA funded Veterinary Investigation (VI) Centres. The closure of anumber of these facilities has made it a much less accessible service. There is a subsidised service for transport of carcases to one of the remaining five centres but this is dependent on postcode - go to http://ahvla.defra.gov.uk/postcode/pme.asp . With the loss ofeasy access to local VI Centres, the AHDB set up a Fallen Stock Project over the period April 2014 to June 2015 to see what information could be gathered by doing post mortem examinations at the Fallen Stock Collection Centre (FSCC).

The study was carried out across Northumberland - read the results here in our newsletter
